This 'Foreword' is a brief summary of my message on the 70-Weeks prophecy of Daniel (Daniel 9:24-27). In that prophecy God gave the world two timetables; a 69-week timetable leading up to the first coming of Jesus Christ, and a remaining 70th week leading up to His second coming. The 69-week timetable consisted of 69 'weeks' of years, each week lasting for 7 years (for a total of 483 years). Jesus fulfilled that timetable when He entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, four days before His crucifixion.

The 70th week, however, is not like the first 69 weeks; it is not a week of 7 regular calendar years. Rather, it is the great week of the Abrahamic Covenant; beginning roughly 4000 years ago with God's promises to Abraham, divided in the middle by the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD (by the Romans), and soon to be completed at the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The first three pages in the prophecy section of this web site (Introduction to Prophecy, The Olivet Discourse, and The Timetable for Jesus' Return) explain these things in detail. To put it simply, Jesus has told us (in His 'Olivet Discourse') that the midpoint of the 70th Week is the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD. Then God gave the world four visions of the entire 70th Week in John's Little Book. John received the Little Book in Revelation chapter 10, and has set its contents before us in Revelation chapters 11-13. When we combine the Olivet Discourse with John's four visions, the nature of the 70th Week becomes obvious.

The first vision, of 'The Temple and the Courtyard' (Revelation 11:1-2), describes the second half of the week as a time during which the Temple Mount in Jerusalem would be given to the Gentiles:

The second vision, of 'The Two Witnesses' (Revelation 11:3-12), describes God's giving of the entire Bible ('the Law and the Prophets') to the world during the first half of the week, and then portrays the dead bodies of God's servants lying in the city of Jerusalem throughout the second half of the week. This is a picture of the guilt of the Jewish nation for their persecution of God's prophets during Old Testament times, their crucifixion of Christ, their continuing persecution of Christ's disciples, and their opposition to the proclamation of the gospel to a human race desperately in need of it.

The third vision, of 'The Woman, the Child and the Dragon' (Revelation 12), describes Israel's bringing of the promised Messiah and 'seed' of Abraham into the world, followed by the dispersion of the Jewish people throughout the world for the following 1900+ years. While the second vision of 'The Two Witnesses' portrays the guilt of the Jewish nation, this third vision reveals God's preservation of that nation through many years of wandering and difficulty throughout the world. In addition, this vision explains the ultimate source of the world's persecution of the Jewish people over the past 1900+ years; a defeated and bitter archangel. The 'casting out of Satan' is one of the great themes of the New Testament, and sheds much light upon the history of the world over the past 1900+ years.

The fourth and final vision, of 'The Beast From the Sea' (Revelation 13), describes God's authorization of the Beast of Revelation to continue in existence throughout the second half of the 70th Week.

This perspective on the 70th Week of Daniel is based upon the simple and obvious meaning of God's word. With it we can see that God has explained world history to us in a very accurate and useful way. And He has shown us that we are now living very late in the second half of the 70th Week. It is this perspective on the 70th Week that is the foundation for everything else that I have to say about prophecy in this web site. Without a willingness to at least consider the possibility that I am correct, any further time that my visitor might spend in the prophecy section of this web site will be of little use.

Roughly 3000 years ago, around 1000 B.C., God made a promise to King David of Israel, telling him that someday one of his sons would establish David's Kingdom forever:

The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you. When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you; your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.'

2 Samuel 7:11-13, 16

This prophecy was partially fulfilled by the son who followed David upon the throne of Israel; Solomon. Solomon's kingdom represented the zenith of Israel's ancient glory, as his wealth and power reached unprecedented heights and he built Israel's first 'house' for God; the first Temple in Jerusalem. But Solomon did not remain faithful to God, and David's Kingdom spiraled downward from that time onward. It was brought to an apparent end by the armies of Babylon in 586 B.C., as king Nebuchadnezzar conquered Israel, destroyed Jerusalem and Solomon's Temple, and brought an end to the ruling dynasty of David's family.

One of the Jewish people who was taken captive to Babylon was a young man named Daniel. As Daniel witnessed Babylon's conquest of his homeland, the deportation of his countrymen from the land of Israel, and the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, he could not help but wonder whether or not God still intended to fulfill His promises to David. In response to his questions and prayers, God gave Daniel five prophecies that are recorded in the book of Daniel. One of these prophecies, the '70 Weeks' prophecy found in Daniel chapter 9, provides us with God's 'schedule' for fulfilling His promises; a 69-week timetable leading to the first coming of Israel's Messiah, and a 70th 'week' leading up to His second coming (for an explanation of these timetables, please see my web pages on the Olivet Discourse and the Timetable for Jesus' Return).

The other four prophecies that Daniel received share one common theme; describing the relationship between the nation of Israel (the Jewish people) with the greater Gentile world until the ultimate restoration of the kingdom of David in the last days, at the Messiah's second coming. God explained to Daniel that Israel would have no more Jewish kings until after the people of Israel had been dominated by four successive Gentile empires. At the end of that Gentile domination David's promised Son would return to fully restore the Kingdom of David and rule the entire world.

The four empires in these prophecies are Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. When Babylon desolated Israel and Jerusalem in 586 BC, it removed David's family from power, and David's kingdom came to an end. Israel has not had a Jewish king since that time. These four prophecies, found in the 2nd, 7th, 8th, and the combined 10th through 12th chapters of the book of Daniel, describe a Gentile domination of Israel that continues to this day; a period of over 2500 years. Looking at these four prophecies is like looking at something under a microscope and clicking up the power with each successive prophecy, because each one becomes more specific as it describes these Gentile empires, and the events that would take place as one empire fell and the next one rose to power. In this web page I explain the first two prophecies, in chapters 2 and 7 of the book of Daniel.

The prophecy in Daniel 2 was not actually given to Daniel; it was given to king Nebuchadnezzar in a dream, and then Daniel interpreted the dream. In his dream Nebuchadnezzar saw a great statue representing four successive Gentile empires; a head of gold symbolizing Babylon, a chest and arms of silver symbolizing Persia, a stomach and thighs of bronze symbolizing Greece, and legs and feet of iron symbolizing the Roman Empire. Nebuchadnezzar watched God cut out a stone and cast it on the feet of this statue, destroying the entire statue. Then the stone grew larger, filled the earth, and ruled the world forever. This stone represents the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to bring an end to Gentile domination over Israel, and to re-establish the kingdom of David.

There are two things that we can deduce from Nebuchadnezzar's dream. First of all, God sees all 4 of these Gentile empires as one thing; they are all Babylon in His eyes. This is why He portrayed them as one statue. Persia, Greece and Rome have merely extended what Babylon started. Babylon brought an end to the rule of David's family over Israel. There has not been another Jewish king from David's family ruling over Israel since that day. God wants us to recognize the significance of this four-part 'Babylon' as that which has interrupted David's Kingdom, and will be done away with when David's Son, Jesus Christ comes back to reestablish that kingdom and rule the world. This is why, when we read about Babylon in the book of Revelation, we can understand that God is really talking about Rome. Why? Because when the apostle John received the book of Revelation, Rome had already risen to power and the 'Roman phase' of Babylon had begun.

Secondly, we can deduce from Nebuchadnezzar's dream that the second coming of Jesus Christ will occur late in the history of Rome. Since time moves forward as one moves from the head of the statue to it's lower parts, the stone falling upon the iron feet signifies that the second coming of Christ will occur late in Rome's existence, and bring Roman Babylon to an end.

In Daniel 7 these same four Gentile empires are presented to us as four separate beasts. Babylon is symbolized by a lion, Persia by a bear, Greece by a leopard, and Rome by a beast unlike any known animal; dreadful, terrible and powerful, having great iron teeth and trampling and devouring the whole earth. This fourth Beast corresponds to the iron legs and feet of the statue in Daniel chapter 2.

4th Beast

Daniel observed that this Roman beast had 10 horns. Horns symbolize concentrations of power in Bible prophecy. Daniel was told that these 10 horns represent 10 kings (or kingdoms) that would arise out of the original Roman Empire (Daniel 7:24). The original Roman Empire ruled most of the then-known world. From its center in the city of Rome, Roman domination radiated outward in a 360 degree circle, dividing the world into 10 primary areas. I believe that these 10 regions, beginning with the Italian peninsula itself, might be divided up as follows:

    1. Italy
    2. Achaia (Greece and the surrounding region)
    3. Asia (an area now called Turkey)
    4. Syria (an area including what is now Israel and the greater Middle East)
    5. Egypt
    6. Africa (northern Africa)
    7. Spain
    8. Gaul (now known as France)
    9. Germany
    10. Britain

There are many opinions about what the 10 horns on this Beast symbolize. The number of books and articles written about this Beast and its horns is great. I do not claim to have a perfect understanding of these 10 horns, but I believe that my explanation is a reasonable one.

After being introduced to these four Beasts, Daniel's attention was drawn to the 10 horns on the fourth Beast, and to a 'little horn' rising up from among them:

I considered the (ten) horns, and behold there came up among them another little horn, before whom three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Daniel 7:8
Little Horn

My contention is that the appearance of the 'little horn' in this prophecy is a picture of the rise of the United States upon the world stage. The history of the United States has its roots in the European conquest of the Western Hemisphere. When the original thirteen American colonies came into existence, North America was dominated by three major world powers; France, Britain and Spain.

The people of the colonies fought against the French in the French and Indian War, and then against the British in the War of Independence and the War of 1812. Finally the United States pushed Spain from the Florida peninsula and the southwestern United States in the process of defining its ultimate territory. These early American conflicts with France, Britain and Spain are represented in Daniel 7 by the displacement of three original horns by the little horn. The little horn did not destroy these three horns, but uprooted them from a part of the world that would eventually become the territory of the United States.

It is appropriate that America is depicted as a little horn arising upon a Roman Beast. The United States was established by people of European descent who had a western, 'Roman' heritage. The founding fathers borrowed a great deal from the government of the ancient Roman Republic, seeking to build a representative form of government that would improve upon the original Roman one. They even took Roman pen-names as they communicated their thoughts publicly in the media of the day. Their love of Rome is also reflected in the Roman architecture of Washington D.C.

The Little Horn of Daniel 7:8 had the eyes of a man, and was speaking great (or boastful) words. The 'eyes of a man' symbolize the idea of seeing things as mankind sees them. It represents the humanism that underlies the government of the United States. The concept of democracy is based upon the belief that mankind was meant to be self-governing and secondly, that in its collective strength and wisdom the human race has the ability to overcome every problem and obstacle that confronts it. Democracy is based upon the idea that there is something inherently right and wise about the majority of a nation's people (or a majority of the world's people) ruling themselves.

The pompous or boastful words might correspond to the four major claims that America makes for itself. Although these claims might seem to have some validity from a human perspective, the Bible contradicts every one of them:

    1) America is 'One nation under God'. We put "In God We Trust" on our currency and coinage. Some Americans believe that God established our nation, and that it is uniquely pleasing to Him and serves His purposes.

The Bible talks about another 'nation under God'. It is described in Daniel 7:18, 22, 27 as "the saints of the Most High". The apostle Peter describes these people as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people who are God's own special possession (1 Peter 2:9). God is talking about all of those people, down through the centuries, who have washed away their sins in the blood of God's Lamb, Jesus Christ, and have then gone on to serve Him with an allegiance that rises above any earthly citizenship. It is this 'nation under God' that will come back to earth some day with the Lord Jesus, to rule the world with Him in fulfillment of His promise.

    2) American Democracy is the best form of government, and ought to be copied by every other nation in the world.

There is only one best form of government for mankind. It is not a democracy; it is a theocracy. It is not based upon the will and wisdom of mankind, but upon the will and wisdom of almighty God. It is this form of government which will be established on earth when mankind, in its collective wisdom, has all but destroyed this planet and every living thing on it.

Democracy supposedly insures that a nation's leadership will be representative of its people. But wealthy people, interest groups and corporations vote everyday (and often many times a day) within the halls of power, while the common man waits for his turn to vote once every few years. Democracy is a facade that allows government by the rich and shrewd to prevail. And there is absolutely no reason to believe that the majority of those who vote regarding any candidate or issue at any time, will be making either informed or morally right choices. Today election outcomes are largely determined by political 'operatives', media influence and changing norms of political correctness.

The Bible says that there are 'none righteous' and that not one person seeks after God. It also says that all of mankind together, giving its best cooperative effort, is 'unprofitable' (Psalms 14:1-3, Romans 3:12). In the light of these truths, it is hard to understand how a Christian can believe that anything but disaster will ultimately result from democracy. Christians who believe that they can serve God and promote His kingdom through the ballot box are deceived, and need to re-examine their beliefs. The Bible nowhere encourages Christians to further the interests of God through involvement in government. It does not forbid Christians to serve in government, but it nowhere encourages the pursuit of power in order to promote God's agenda. While God establishes governments of all kinds, and uses them to enforce 'law and order' (Romans 13), the ultimate end-product of democracy, defined as it is by a rebellious humanity, will always be contention against God.

    3) America is the great champion of freedom for all mankind.

There is only one real champion of freedom for mankind; freedom from the fear of death that hangs over our heads every day, and freedom from the tyranny of Sin within us, which keeps us from being the kind of people, and living the kinds of lives that we really want to live. That is the Lord Jesus Christ. Most of us feel 'free' if our health is good and we have money in our pockets, but such a perspective is shortsighted. None of us is ever truly free apart from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He owns the universe and has conquered death. To know Him is to be rich indeed, and free indeed.

    4) America is a great technological, economic and military superpower.

There is only one real superpower in this world, or in the universe for that matter. That, again, is the Lord Jesus Christ; the One in whom all wisdom, knowledge, power and authority reside, in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). Right now He is restraining the exercise of that power, as He allows people and nations to decide whether or not they will submit to Him. But a day is coming, a day that the Bible calls "The Day of the Lord", when He will exercise His power openly:

And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. He shall rule them with a rod of iron, and He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His vesture and on His thigh a name written: King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Revelation 19:15-16

Consistent with Daniel's 'eyes of a man', today's America has essentially made the 'Theory of Evolution' an amendment to the Constitution. This theory attributes mankind's existence to the evolutionary struggles of biological creatures that have lived before us, and teaches that mankind's only hope lies in continuing this struggle, embracing knowledge and self-reliance as the only means to achieve progress.

The theory of evolution is essentially materialism. It is atheism. It tells us that there is no Creator and there are no moral absolutes. It tells us that we are the result of blind chance, and are sophisticated organic machines striving to survive, with survival defining our purpose and the endgame. Rather than submit to the simple moral laws that determine the ultimate success of anyone in God's universe, materialistic atheists tell us that we are completely unimportant because we are so small, and yet tell us that we will become like God, rocketing around the universe as in 'Star Trek' or 'Star Wars'. Globalists tell us that while each one of us has limited potential, together we can achieve what God alone can do: establish world peace, rid the world of financial inequality, clean up the earth's environment and conquer death. Meanwhile, God tells us that trusting in humanity is a fool's errand:

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

Psalm 118:8

The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe

Proverbs 29:25

Enter into the rock, and hide yourself in the dust, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of His majesty. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the Day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low.

Isaiah 2:10-12

It is a combination of opposition to anything connected with biblical Christianity, together with a constant trumpeting of mankind's accomplishments and 'infinite possibilties', that characterizes American culture today. It is disrespect for God and the exaltation of man:

That horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke very great things, whose look was more strong than his fellow horns. I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

Daniel 7:20-21

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws. And they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time (until the end of the second half of the 70th week of Daniel).

Daniel 7:25

Beginning in the 1980's a very reasonable scientific response to the theory of evolution began to arise. It is summed up under the heading 'Intelligent Design'. It looks at the nature of our universe and planet, and argues very reasonably against the mindless, undirected chance and materialism of evolution. Today the scientific evidence is overwhelming that a very precisely pre-planned universe suddenly sprang into existence 14 billion years ago. This pre-planning made a solar system and planet like ours possible 10 billion years later, uniquely able to sustain complex intelligent life. And it is certain that all biological life is driven by an 'information-rich' operating system which could not exist apart from an infinitely wise Creator; an operating system that was unknown to Darwin when he proposed the theory of evolution; not discovered until the 1950's.

Despite these well-reasoned conclusions, America's 'thought-leaders' refuse to honestly meet the argument for Intelligent Design on a scientific basis. Instead they insist upon using the 'separation of church and state', together with examples of bigoted and narrow-minded Christians, to exclude all discussion of 'Intelligent Design' from the public forum; even though 'Intelligent Design' theory says nothing about who the 'designer' might be (see Science and the Bible for further discussion of this issue). Leaders in America's 'educational community' have insisted that science can only be defined as thought that excludes the possibility of an Intelligent Creator. They are as repressive of religious truth today, as religious bigots were suppressive of scientific truth in the days of Galileo. By hamstringing science in this way, in the service of their own humanistic opposition to God, they are saddling America with a generation of students who are scientifically illiterate.

Today the theory of evolution continues to be promoted not because it is scientifically valid, but because it is a story about mankind and our place in the universe. It says that we are not accountable to a Creator, but that instead we are in a struggle for survival; a struggle that is dependent upon our increasing knowledge. Hence the insistence that science and any discussion about a possible Creator must be kept separate. Are we created, and therefore obligated to worship a Creator? Or are we independent agents in the universe, just trying to survive? Is it a bold and brave thing to trust exclusively in ourselves and in our own intellects, or is it inherently foolish and evil?

Long ago God told the prophet Daniel that the last days, before His judgment of the world, would be characterized by an increase in knowledge and by people traveling 'to and fro' (Daniel 12:4). That has certainly come to pass. That increased knowledge means that today's scientist knows, when he looks through a telescope at the universe or through a microscope at the incredibly complex biological machinery of life, that such things could not exist apart from a supernatural Creator possessing infinite intelligence and power. Whatever culture war which may have begun with Darwin in the 1850's, and continued through the 'Scopes Monkey Trial' of the 1920's, is now over. The final evidence has been submitted, Intelligent Design has now been demonstrated, and our Creator's labor of fully revealing Himself to us is now over.

For many Americans, those who reject the narrative of mankind's 'evolutionary journey' are increasingly viewed not only as ignorant, but also as enemies of the human race. Some view Christians as a cancer in the body of humanity, that will have to be cut out in order for the rest of mankind to survive. This embrace of the 'evolutionary paradigm', with its rejection of a Creator and His moral imperatives, harkens back to a scientifically advanced German nation that embraced evolution and a 'higher criticism' of the Bible in the 19th century, and then went on to validate the Bible through unprecedented bloodshed and moral debauchery in the 20th.

It will be in part because America still has Germany's example fresh in its own collective memory, that God will be justified when He gives the horn, and the Beast from which it first arose, to the fires of judgment in the days ahead:

I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke. I beheld even until the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

Daniel 7:11

For those of us who have been born and raised in the United States, have rejoiced in its victories over Germany and Japan in World War II, have enjoyed its wealth and prosperity, and from childhood have recited the 'Pledge of Allegiance' in school and been taught that America is the greatest and noblest nation in history, it is unsettling to consider the possibility that this is not true. But I would challenge my reader to take an honest look at history, and to ask yourself whether or not this so-called 'nation under God' has acted more like the gentle Savior who impoverished Himself and died in order to bless His enemies, or like the terrifying, trampling, devouring Beast of Daniel 7:7.

The fact that Jefferson said that men are given certain inalienable rights 'by their Creator' (in the Declaration of Independence) does not mean that Jefferson was a Christian. Jefferson was using an allusion to God to leverage a 'higher authority' in his argument with Great Britain, pursuing the support of religious people both in the colonies and in Europe. Jefferson had no use for Christianity. He compiled his own version of the Bible (the Jefferson Bible) that removed all of the supernatural miracles, denied the deity of Jesus Christ, and reduced Jesus to a compelling moral figure. Jefferson (along with America's other 'founding fathers') was a deist who (like today's politicians) recognized the political value of appealing to the Christian segment of the population. America's forefathers were rationalists who believed that mankind's ultimate success lay in relying upon the faculties of the human mind. Their worldview was summed up in Thomas Paine's 'The Age of Reason'.

God's command to Christians is simple; they are to acknowledge the truth, adjusting themselves to God's view of things rather than man's. It was because of this disturbing 'truth-telling' trait of Christianity, that the early Christians were accused of 'turning the world upside down':

These (Christians) that have turned the world upside down are come here also, whom Jason has received. And these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king; one Jesus.

Acts 17:6-7

And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2

In just the first 65 years of America's history, beginning with the ratification of the Constitution in 1788, this nation went on to conquer Mexico and menace Japan. Through the Mexican-American war America annexed what is now the southwestern United States. Then America sailed steam-powered warships into Tokyo Bay in 1853, under Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry, demanding that the Japanese open their country to our businessmen, and that they provide coaling stations for our new steam-powered merchant and naval vessels. It was this aggressiveness, and the aggression of other European nations in China and in other parts of the Orient, that partially drove Japan's militarization and 'counter-attack' upon Pearl Harbor 88 years later.

In the following 45 years, the wealthy industrialized Northern states conquered the agricultural Southern states in the Civil War, crushed the native Indian people of the western states, and then seized Spain's colonies in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines in the Spanish-American War. In a total of 110 years, America went from 13 colonies to a world power with colonies of her own. The rest, as they say, is history. Since that time America has followed the other European 'horns' in trampling throughout the world, so that at this time there are few places on the planet where the natural and human resources have not been devoured by the United States or its European allies.

At this time America is the great 'Occupier' of the entire world. It has approximately 800 military bases scattered across the globe, and its nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers dominate all of the oceans of the world. America has picked up where Great Britain left off. Truly the sun never sets upon the American Empire. Yes, America's world-dominance is a reflection of its greatness. But the question is this: Is greatness synonymous with goodness? Does might truly make right? What is greatness worth in the light of eternity? God makes a clear distinction between greatness and goodness. He says that both the great and the not-so-great will stand together before Him in judgment. And the only basis upon which they will all be judged is whether or not they were good:

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God. And the books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Revelation 20:12

In his movie titled America: Imagine a World Without Her, Dinesh D'Souza challenges us to imagine a world where George Washington might have been killed in battle, where the British might have suppressed the American revolution, and where America's impact upon the world might never have been felt. D'Souza frames his presentation by contrasting the American political left with the political right. He begins by listing the things that leftists have accused America of doing. Some of them are things that I have already mentioned above:

    1) Theft of Land (Genocide of the American Indian)
    2) Theft of Mexican Territory (The Mexican-American War, 1846-1848)
    3) Theft of Labor (Slavery, Segretation)
    4) Theft of Resources (Imperialism and World Domination)
    5) Theft of the American Dream (Capitalism)

While D'Souza's movie is well done and thought provoking, he fails to answer the fundamental question of this web page: Is a government established upon human self-governance, and upon the wisdom and competence of mankind likely to be successful? To hear D'Souza tell it, America is presently upon the brink of a very dangerous precipice; one that might plunge all of us into a fundamentally dark, oppressive, socialist hell. D'Souza tells us that a return to America's founding principles and the constitution is the answer. Throughout the movie He recites all of the 'boastful claims' about America that I have already listed above.

My answer to Mr. D'Souza is:

Yes sir, I can imagine a world without America, and that doesn't make me a traitor or some kind of leftist 'crazy'. I can imagine a world where the nations will have beaten their swords into plowshares. I can imagine a world where murder has ended, and peace reigns. I can imagine a world where lies and deceit are banished, and only unbiased truth appears in the newpaper and on TV. I can imagine a world ruled by God, and not by men, where judgments are always handed down truthfully, fairly and impartially; and where the utmost good is achieved for all.

I can imagine a world where energy is free and limitless, and where injury and disease are controlled. I can imagine a world where crops are grown more productively than ever before in history. I can imagine a world where the true and living God is joyously worshiped, while His adversary lies chained in a deep pit, waiting for his final judgment.

Mr. D'Souza, you came to America from India, and so display the 'zeal of a convert'. I can't fault you for that. But sooner or later you are going to have to ask yourself 'Can these things which I imagine be accomplished by men, or only by God?' Our answer to that question is what really defines us, and defines our 'politics'.

For Abraham looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Hebrews 11:10

Let us go forth therefore unto Jesus outside of the camp, bearing His reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

Hebrews 13:13-14

A great deal of D'Souza's film is about the inherent conflict between the 'left' and the 'right', centering around questions of social justice and what we can do about it. There is a technology in our near future, Block Chain computing, that promises to address all of those issues. It will supposedly solve these problems and bring humanity together. Ultimately is will be the basis for something that God calls 'The Mark of the Beast'.

It will represent man's ultimate answer to man's problems. It will be the basis of many more 'boastful words' in the future. It may usher in the ultimate exercise of participatory democracy; a world in which every person can vote right from home, and on a regular basis. But its foundations will be built, as all governments in history have been, upon the character and competence of man.

Thus says the Lord, "Cursed be the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a bush in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited".

"Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes. But her leaf shall be green and shall not be careful in the year of drought; neither shall it cease from yielding fruit".

Jeremiah 17:5-8

Take heed unto yourself, and unto Christian doctrine. Continue in them. For in doing this you shall both save yourself, and them that hear you.

1 Timothy 4:16

Dinesh D'Souza makes a valid point; America's morality cannot be defined in simple, 'black and white' terms. America's history and its citizens have been a mixture of a great many things, good and bad, noble and ignoble since its founding. That does not mean, however, that we must close our eyes. In his first general letter to Christians, the apostle Peter wrote:

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, as a thief, as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

1 Peter 4:15

Peter's words sum up a major aspect of the foreign policy of the United States toward the rest of the nations of the world. Any thoughtful study of United States history, beginning with the Spanish American War, will find an endless trail of political meddling and military aggression, often on behalf of business interests, resulting in the theft of the wealth of other nations. One of the clearest examples of this is the toppling of Iran's legitimate government in 1953, and America's replacement of that government with the Shah of Iran, who would put his own interests and the interests of the United States above the welfare of the Iranian people. A more recent example is the meddling of the Obama administration in Israel's elections, in an effort to swing those elections toward the liberal parties and undermine Israel's security.

The symbol of the United States is an eagle with arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other. This represents America's approach to the rest of the world. America has used its business, intelligence and military assets to confront nations with a choice between 'peaceful economic cooperation' or military conflict. Beginning with the end of World War II, with the rise of McCarthyism and the 'Red Scare' of the early fifties, American business interests were able to mask their rapacious approach to the rest of the world under the moral cloak of combating the evils of 'godless' Communism and Socialism. Much blood was shed and much wealth stolen in the name of God, Democracy and 'free markets'. Today American businesses provide themselves with 'cover' by moving to the left; pursuing business under the guise of 'Globalism' and 'Free Trade'. Now all of the people of the world are 'brothers'. That's what gets the foot of American business in the door of nations around the world.

Today an American nation that was ready to go to war in the past, no longer has any heart for a fight. Many Americans felt that World Wars I and II were necessary and justified wars. But most American wars since then, from Korea and Vietnam to Afghanistan and Iraq, have cost American blood and treasure with little or nothing to show for it (apart from the enrichment of politicians, generals and military contractors). The American people are no longer open to military solutions, because American leaders have lied them into so many military adventures since 1945; disasters that have come from a military-industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned Americans about in 1961.

It should not have surprised anyone that, after George W. Bush's foolish decision to use the 9/11 tragedy as a pretext for attacking Iraq, the American people turned to Barack Obama in 2008; an Islam-promoting president who hated Israel and sought to insert Sharia Law into the legal DNA of American jurisprudence; to criminalize anyone who might speak negatively about the 'holy prophet of Islam'. This has been the inevitable consequence of the international meddling of George W. Bush, and the American evangelical community that put him in office.

American propaganda has always served to paint the United States as morally 'white', and all of those whom she opposes as morally 'black'. One of America's prominent tactics has been the promotion of 'democracy'. And within the context of democracy, the United States has backedcertain candidates within various nations who would be inclined, if elected, to share American interests; thus conquering nations through the ballot box rather than militarily. It worked for a while in Russia after the fall of Communism, as well as in Ukraine and in former Soviet Georgia. It remains a propaganda tool today, which America continues to use.

Undiscerning Americans fail to realize that when the West gives a Chinese dissident the Nobel Prize, and praises his 'democracy-promoting ethics' while criticizing his imprisonment by the Chinese government, it is really nothing more than an attempt to gain leverage in the internal affairs of another nation, just as the Chinese government has described it. It plays well at home before an undiscerning American public, but it is really only an international power play. The leadership of the United States cares no more about the representative rights of the common man in China than it has in Iran, Viet Nam, Guatemala, Pinochet's Chile, Saudi Arabia or a host of other countries. Alliances with dictatorships have been a favorite foreign policy of America for decades, as long as those dictatorships facilitated American power and economic interests.

America loves to identify soldiering with manhood, and labels those unwilling to fight as 'cowards'. It is a mindset that permeates our society; so much so that a soldier in uniform is almost always given a place of honor in evangelical Protestant churches throughout the country. From movies, TV, video games and NFL football, to UFC mixed martial arts and the World Wrestling Federation, the message is that a 'real' man is a 'fighting' man.

This is the same mindset that characterized the Roman soldiers who tortured Christ, and the Pharisees who challenged Him to demonstrate His power by coming down from the cross. But the Lord Jesus overcame these insults by demonstrating the wisdom of Solomon's proverb:

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his own soul than he who conquers a city.

Proverbs 16:32

There will not be any murderous soldiers glorified before the judgment seat of Christ when He returns to rule the earth. When He comes back these 'heroes', and the people who employed them, will either be hiding in terror or will become bird food:

In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake terribly the earth.

Isaiah 2:20-21

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"

Revelation 6:15-17

And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven "Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; that you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

Revelation 19:17-18

If you are a soldier, you would do well to give this some thought. The most masculine man who ever lived was as harmless as a lamb when He was brutalized by soldiers and put to death (Isaiah 53:7). You have a choice: wear the uniform, march in the parades and enjoy your glory now, or throw down your weapons and obey the Prince of Peace in pursuit of an honor that is genuine and that will last forever. Some may question your manhood, just like they questioned His, but it is better to be despised by men than to be despised by God.

It is one thing to fight to protect one's wife, children and homestead. God expects men to do that. But I believe that God would have Christians stay out of wars, which are invariably fought over the resources of the world. God promises that a day is coming when every bullet fired will be accounted for, and when every murderous politician, soldier and war-loving Christian will be judged.

I suspect that much of the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that soldiers experience, coming home from war, is because they are struggling with the horror of things that they have seen and done, or things they have seen others do (on both sides). Many of these soldiers were young people who entered into the military naively, experienced the hell of war, and now have come home disillusioned. Now they struggle to make sense of all that they have experienced. It is no wonder that their families don't 'know them' when they return. Sadly not all evangelical Christians acknowledge the world as it is, and are prepared to help soldiers come to grips with these issues through the word and grace of God, rather than through the lense of patriotism.

For, behold, the Lord comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

Isaiah 26:21

From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not from your lusts that war in your members? You lust, and have not. You kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain. You fight and war, yet you have not because you ask not. You ask, but receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts. You adulterers and adulteresses, know you not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

James 4:1-4

America has been giving to the rich and oppressing the poor for decades. Nowhere has this practice been more flagrant than during the presidency of the 'born-again Christian', George W. Bush. He pushed through large tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and then launched a war upon a poor nation (Iraq) whose people had been impoverished by 12 years of embargoes and 'no-fly zones'. Bush invaded Iraq in 2003 under false pretexts, claiming that it had nothing to do with the vast oil reserves underneath Iraqi soil. And to his shame, he did so without first killing Osama Bin Laden. This is a recipe for failure that a wise king of Israel warned about 3000 years ago:

He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to poverty.

Proverbs 22:16

I don't think it's a coincidence that the crash of 2008, and America's subsequent poverty, came at the end of Bush's presidency. But giving to the rich and robbing the poor has not been a policy unique to the Republicans; the Democrats are equally guilty.

What saddens me is that undiscerning Christians have supported this shift of wealth. Over and over again politicians have used patriotism, 'moral values', and a pretended love for Israel to obtain the votes of the 'Christian right'. This lack of Christian discernment has now brought evangelical Christianity to the point where it has absolutely no credibility in the eyes of the American people. The failure of Christians to wisely recognize the true nature of politics, and to maintain a 'studied political neutrality', has ruined their spiritual 'saltiness' and left them deserving of being trampled.

You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trampled under foot by men.

Matthew 5:13

This evangelical failure has done Israel more harm than good. By disgracing themselves, the Christian Right has also embarrassed the Jewish nation that they have supported. For decades the 'religious right' engaged in cultural warfare, embracing Republican administrations. Under Reagan and Bush Sr. they called themselves the 'moral majority'. Then they gullibly let Bush Jr. and Karl Rove manipulate them with false claims of religious piety (2000) and promises to defend heterosexual marriage (2004). If those same Christians had stayed out of politics, focusing on the fact that Jesus Christ alone can be trusted, they would still enjoy the favor of God and have some credibility with people of all political persuasions.

As it is, fundamentalist Christians are now despised by both political parties. Because 'Tea Party' Christians embarrassed Mitt Romney and the Republican Party with claims that the bodies of raped women can resist pregnancy, and that conception due to rape might be something that God intended, much of the Republican party has joined the Democrats in rejecting the Christian right. These 'Christian' candidates may very well have cost the Republicans the 2012 presidential election, and a majority in the Senate by alienating the entire female electorate of the United States.

Today the 'establishment' of the Republican party is 'death' on the religious right, and understandably so. Despite Donald Trump's recent election to the presidency, the Republican establishment still wants nothing to do with the religious right. If the Trump presidency implodes, it may sound the death knell of evangelical Christianity in America. Hillary Clinton's labeling of conservative Christians as 'deplorable' will be unanimously endorsed by all Americans and all parties.

In truth, it may well be said that if evangelical Christians had placed more emphasis on their spiritual lives than upon politics over the past 40 years, a great many more people would have been positively touched by the gospel of Jesus Christ. I suspect that many evangelical Christians glorify patriotism and democracy because they don't want to take the heat that comes with putting Jesus Christ above America. They are not willing to go 'outside of America's gates', bearing Christ's reproach (Hebrews 13:13). But by putting America before Christ they have betrayed both America and Christ, and fulfilled the words of Samuel Johnson:

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."

America is armed to the teeth, and is underwriting its defense industries financially by arming the other nations of the world as well. Today Christian Americans are confronted with the same choice that early Christians faced in the Roman Empire, that German Christians faced when Hitler came to power, and that other Christians are facing today in places like China and elsewhere. It has always been a choice between nationalism and the kingdom of God, between citizenship above or citizenship below on earth, and between treasure here in this world or in the world to come. It is a choice between joining violent people, or separating ourselves from them:

My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. If they say "Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave, and whole, as those that go down into the pit. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil. Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse." My son, walk not in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path. For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird; but they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk secretly for their own lives. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of the owners thereof.

Proverbs 1:10-19

Today America's purse might best be described as the stock market. People all over America and around the world have money in that purse, and are counting on American success for their own wealth and future retirements. Many want to turn America's Social Security funds over to the stock market, thus enslaving all Americans completely to the interests of corporations. People need to consider whether or not, by putting their money in America's 'Wall Street purse', they won't someday be charged with the bloodshed that was required to fill that purse.

At the present time America's relentless pursuit of wealth has left her with many enemies throughout the world, and has left the Western economy saddled with debt. The Western nations are in need of a security system that will allow them to control the people of the world, while simultaneously generating much larger tax revenues. God has described that system in Revelation 13:

And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Revelation 13:16-17

The heart of this new system will be an identifying mark that people will be required to have in order to buy or sell anything throughout the world. I believe that this mark will be some kind of computer chip, inserted under the skin of the hand or forehead, which will enable authorities to identify people, even at a distance. It will also be the foundation of a new medical system and cashless economy in which the government will be able to tax every financial transaction that takes place, while watching the behavior of people by monitoring their financial activities. This system and its chip will incorporate people into what is now referred to as the 'Internet of Things' (IoT).

I expect the foundational software of this new system to be largely complete by 2020. It will be based upon the 'Block Chain' technology that underlies the BitCoin cryptocurrency that is used throughout the world today. Today the world's banks, governments and corporations are racing to implement this technology worldwide. This is a 'distributed ledger' system that will allow not only for the exchange of money digitally throughout the world, but will also enable an exchange of physical property and personal information that will be completely secure, verifiable and inexpensive to operate.

It is a 'trustworthy' system that will require a 'buy-in' from all of the nations of the world who will use it, and so it will be heralded as finally bringing peace, understanding, cooperation and unity to mankind. It will promise to revolutionize the economy worldwide, and provide equal access to wealth for every citizen of the world. And it will fill the coffers of the governments, banks and businesses that embrace it with amounts of money never before dreamed of.

This new system will be viewed by many people as mankind's crowning achievement, and the 'evolutionary gateway' to unlimited future possibilities for the human race. But in Revelation 14:9 God warns us that anyone who takes this 'mark' in their body will spend eternity in the "Lake of Fire":

And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice "If any man worship the Beast and his image, and receives his mark in his forehead or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the Beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

Revelation 14:9-12

Who is this 'Beast' behind the 'mark'? It is militant, organized, God-opposing humanity in all of the forms that it has taken throughout the history of the world since 70 AD, when the Roman Empire destroyed the city of Jerusalem. I suspect that the form in which the Beast appears today is the United Nations. I explain the existence of the Beast, going back to its earliest incarnation as the Roman Empire, in my web page titled 'The Beast and the False Prophet'. I also explain an important ally of the 'Beast' in that web page; a second Beast referred to in the book of Revelation as 'The False Prophet'. The False Prophet will be instrumental in imposing the 'Mark of the Beast' upon the world.

Today the vast majority of the world's people and nations believe that Israel is illegally occupying the West Bank; the biblical land of 'Judea and Samaria'. The Muslim nations of the world believe that the Jews have no legitimate right to inhabit any part of Palestine at all, and that the establishment by the U.N. of the nation of Israel in 1948 is illegal and immoral. In addition there are many Christians, and Christian denominations, who see no future for a Jewish nation within the Bible or the plans of God. They believe that God Himself is opposed to the establishment of the nation of Israel.

To be sure there are individual citizens of Israel and Jews around the world who are criminals, condemned by God, and who do not deserve any special treatment because they are Jews. But when it comes to the nation of Israel, there is every reason to believe that the emergence of Israel in 1948 is the handiwork of God, and was intended and foretold by Him long ago.

There are two reasons why Israel's existence and occupation of the 'West Bank' are legitimate:

    1) The land of Israel belongs to God alone, and no one else (Jeremiah 2:7, 16:18). He has uniquely associated Himself with it, and has placed His name there. It is He alone who has authority to decide who will live there, and who will not.
    2) God announced to Abraham long ago that qualification to live in His land would be based upon the moral character of the people living there. He told Abraham that his own family would not be able to take possession of the land until its current inhabitants, the Amorites, had become morally unfit to remain:

And God said unto Abram "Know of a surety that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years. And also that nation (Egypt), whom they shall serve, will I judge. And afterward shall they come out with great substance. And you shall go to your fathers in peace. You shall be buried in a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall come here again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full".

Genesis 15:13-16
Not only did God's moral standards apply to the Amorites, but God also warned the Israelites that if they embraced wickedness, they themselves would be judged and 'spit out of the land' also:

Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbour's wife, to defile yourself with her. And you shall not let any of your seed (children) pass through the fire to Molech (a pagan god). Neither shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord. You shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shall you lie with any beast to defile yourself therewith. Neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

Defile not yourselves in any of these things, for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you. And the land is defiled. Therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomits out her inhabitants. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourns among you. For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled. That the land not spit you out also, when you defile it, as it spat out the nations that were before you.

Leviticus 18:24-28
In this warning, which God gave to Israel 400 years after Abraham, He was describing how 'full' the wickedness of the Amorites had become. The Amorites had given themselves over to adultery, homosexuality, the killing of their own children as sacrifices to pagan gods, and bestiality (having sexual intercourse with animals). It was because of this wickedness that God authorized and empowered the Israelites to destroy the nations of Canaan and take their land.

Since the days of Joshua (1480 BC), the people of Israel have experienced expulsion from the land at several points during their history. In 740 BC the 10 northern tribes of Israel were conquered by the Assyrians, and their people were either destroyed or scattered across the Assyrian empire (2 Kings 18:9-12). In order to replace them and restore the economy of the area, the king of Assyria brought foreign people in to replace the 10 tribes; people who have since come to be known as Samaritans.

In 586 BC, because the remaining two tribes of Benjamin and Judah had disobeyed God, they were also conquered by a foreign king; King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon (2 Kings 25). At that point the capital city of Jerusalem was destroyed along with its temple, the kingdom of David was brought to an end, and a great many of the citizens of Judah were either killed or taken back to Babylon as prisoners. This was the first of two 'desolations' of Jerusalem and the Temple that would occur in history.

In 516 BC, 70 years after the desolation of Jerusalem, the Persian King Cyrus gave the Jewish people permission to return to the land of Israel and to rebuild the temple of God in Jerusalem (Ezra 1:1-4). And over the course of the next 500+ years they would rebuild Jerusalem and re-inhabit of the original land of Israel. They would not, however, have another king from David's family ruling over them. They would remain under the domination of Persia, Greece and then Rome.

In 70 AD, in fulfillment of the warnings of Moses and the prophets, and of Jesus and His apostles, the Jewish people and their nation experienced the second great 'desolation' in their history. The Roman Empire, which had been occupying Israel and dominating the Jewish people, crushed a Jewish revolt. Rome destroyed Jerusalem and its Temple, killed hundreds of thousands of Jews, and scattered the rest throughout the world, selling many of them as slaves. A final rebellion was put down in 135 AD, and Rome left Jerusalem and the land of Israel desolate. All of this occurred because Israel had rebelled against God and had provoked Him greatly, as the apostle Paul described:

For you brethren (Thessalonians), became followers of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also have suffered similar things from your own countrymen, even as they have from the Jews: who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us. And they please not God, and are contrary to all men: forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins completely. For wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

1 Thessalonians 2:14-16

This 'uttermost' wrath that Paul spoke of has been manifested in the dispersion of the Jewish people throughout the nations of the world over 1800+ years. During that time they have repeatedly suffered hatred, impoverishment, displacement and murder. The final expression of this hatred was seen in the systematic murder of 6 million Jews at the hands of Hitler and the German people. All of these things testify to the world that the land of Palestine belongs to the God of the Bible, and that righteousness is required of its inhabitants. Today the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and the Arch of Titus still testify to the world that the Jews once filled the land of Palestine, and were expelled and fiercely judged by God in 70 AD.

Today a monument to Rome's conquest of the Jews still stands in the city of Rome; the Arch of Titus built in 81 AD. Its carvings depict triumphant Roman soldiers carrying the Jewish Menorah out of the Temple. It testifies to all mankind that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel, that the Jews truly did have a well established society in Israel 2000 years ago, and that it was Rome who drove them out in 70 AD.

2600 years ago, when God brought His first desolation upon Jerusalem, empowering King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to destroy it and its temple, and to bring an end to the reign of David's family over Israel, God gave a warning to the rest of the world:

"For behold, I begin to bring evil on the city (Jerusalem) which is called by My name; and should you (Gentile nations) be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished. For I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth" says the Lord of hosts.

Jeremiah 25:29

The second desolation of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD, and the dispersion of the Jews throughout the world, has not only been a divine punishment upon the Jewish people. It has also been God's second warning to the nations of the world regarding the certainty of His judgments. So where do the Jewish people and the land of Israel stand in God's sight today? The answer comes in two parts:

    1) The Jewish people are no longer under God's wrath, and their nation is being 'resurrected' in the land.
    2) The prior inhabitants of Palestine have been exceptionally evil, and they are being expelled from the land.

God foretold His punishment and restoration of the nation of Israel long ago:

"Comfort, comfort my people" says your God. "Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she has received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins."

Isaiah 40:1-2

Therefore prophesy and say unto them "Thus says the Lord God: Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves. And I shall put My spirit in you, and you shall live. And I shall place you in your own land. Then shall you know that I the Lord have spoken it, and performed it" says the Lord.

Ezekiel 37:12-14

The apostle Paul also described the restoration of the nation of Israel in the last days as a resurrection from the dead:

For if the casting away of the Jews be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

Romans 11:15

I believe that Paul's words convey two ideas. First, that the second coming of Christ to fully restore Israel will coincide with 'the first resurrection'; the bodily resurrection of all of God's faithful people from throughout the history of the human race (Revelation 20:5-6). Secondly, I believe that Paul's words also are an allusion to the famous 'Dry Bones' prophecy of Ezekiel chapter 37; in which God took the dead bones of a dispersed Israel and restored them to life again in the end times.

Beyond recognizing that Israel's punishment is over, we must also understand the wickedness of the people who inhabited Palestine when the Jewish survivors of the holocaust began to look for a home. As I have already mentioned, God intended His punishment of the Jews to be a warning to the Gentile nations of the world. The inhabitants of Palestine watched for 1800 years as the Jews were pursued and persecuted throughout the world. They took possession of the barren temple mount of the Jews, erected Islamic mosques upon it, and declared that 'God has no son'; even though it was the Son of God who had foretold the destruction of Jerusalem, the dispersion of the Jews, and the Gentile possession of the temple mount (Luke 21:24, Revelation 11:2). The inhabitants of Palestine stared directly at God's fulfillment of both the Old and New Testaments for 1800 years, and refused to respect it.

In the early 1940's, at the height of Hitler's persecution of the Jews, a Palestinian leader named Amin al-Husseini, who held the title of 'Grand Mufti of Jerusalem', cooperated closely with the German Reich in both promoting the extermination of the Jewish people and in preventing any Jewish immigration from Europe to Palestine. This was the official position not only of the leader of the 'Palestinians', but of the entire Arab world. It is their refusal to fear the God of Israel or to honor His Son, together with their willingness to 'pile on' in support of the Nazi holocaust, that left them deserving of expulsion from the land of Palestine. God allowed the Jewish people to gain a foothold in Palestine because their punishment had been completed, while the God-hating, genocidal murderers who had inhabited the land were condemned to lose it.

In fulfillment of an ancient policy that God had first announced to Israel through Moses, He granted the Jews a manageable portion of Palestine; one which they would be able to secure and hold:

And the Lord your God will put out those nations before you little by little. You may not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase against you.

Deuteronomy 7:22 (also Exodus 23:30)

God granted the Jews the portion of Palestine where their numbers were greatest. The initial partitioning of the land of Palestine by the U.N. was along Jewish and 'Palestinian' population lines. But while the Jews were willing to accept a small portion of the land, and one that would be very difficult to defend, the surrounding Arab nations ignored what God was doing with the Jews and immediately attacked them in 1948 with overwhelming force. The Jews, surprisingly, were able to hold them off and survive. Since those days Israel's existence has been characterized by two things:

    1) A persistantly vicious, bloodthirsty opposition to Israel's existence by most of the Palestinian people.
    2) A slow, incremental conquest of the land by the Jewish people; 'little by little'.

But while the Jewish people have enjoyed an increasing grip upon their ancient homeland, the nation of Israel and the kingdom of David have not yet been fully established. Great troubles still lie ahead for the Jewish people. I have described these circumstances and troubles in my web page titled 'Israel in Prophecy'. Although Israel has been blessed by God, they have not yet come to know their God.

Jesus is Israel's 'Joseph' (Genesis 37). Just as Joseph's brothers sold him to Gentile traders, thinking that he would die and be remembered no more, so the Jewish people turned Jesus over to the Romans nearly 2000 years ago to be put to death. Since then the majority of the Jewish people have assumed that their 'Brother' is dead. But He is not. He suffered for sins that He Himself did not commit, just as Joseph did. And He has been resurrected from that undeserved punishment, just as Joseph was, to the right hand of power. Now Jesus is seated at the right hand of His Father, the great 'Pharaoh' of the universe. He is working behind the scenes to bring His Jewish brethren to repentance both for their personal sins, and for the collective sins of their nation.

Many of the Jewish people have believed that the re-establishment of their nation has secured their survival as a people, just as Joseph's brothers thought all was well when they obtained grain in Egypt (Genesis 42). But Jesus has 'put His cup in their sack'. Trouble still lies ahead for the nation of Israel, and Jesus is going to use those troubles to bring His brothers to an acknowledgment of what they have done to Him, and of how they have rebelled against God. Jesus knows, as Joseph also did, that God's blessing cannot come upon His brothers while they remain unrepentant about their sins.

The prophet Zechariah has foretold the calamity that Israel's 'Joseph' will allow to befall His people, and the repentance and reconciliation with God that Jesus' 'brothers' will ultimately find:

Behold the day of the Lord is coming, and your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem. The city shall be taken, the houses rifled and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley. Half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee, as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the Lord my God will come, and all the saints with You."

Zechariah 14:1-5

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced. They shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

Zechariah 12:9-10, 13:1

The question that needs to be asked is 'What shall the people and the nations of the world do in the face of this judgment of God upon Israel, and His restoration of that nation before our eyes?' Today the United Nations condemns Israel for the increasing numbers of Jewish people living throughout 'the occupied territories' of the West Bank.

Do they not think that the God of the Bible is real, and that it is He who allowed the Jews to return to their ancient homeland in 1948? Do they think that the Jews must be confined to indefensible pre-1967 borders, surrounded by bloodthirsty enemies who continually incite hatred against them, constantly encouraging terrorism and calling for their extermination in Palestinian schools, television, radio and the internet? Are the nations of the world truly willing to perpetuate the Nazi holocaust? I have explained where the world's hatred of the Jews comes from. It's source is an enraged and defeated archangel who was cast out of heaven just prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD (see 'The Timetable for Jesus' Return').

Today the United States, along with western Europe and the Roman Catholic Church, insist that the Jews are illegal occupants in the heart of their ancient homeland. This is very ironic, given the fact that the nations of Western Europe, accompanied by Roman Catholic priests, have conquered and pillaged much of the world over the past 500 years. The entire United States is comprised of 'occupied' land; land which had never before belonged to Europeans, and which they obtained through confiscation, deception, broken treaties, and the systematic ghettoization and extermination of the aboriginal people of North America. The Jews are far more like American Indians than they are like white Europeans. They also have been the victims of European aggression and occupation, have been continually harassed and oppressed throughout their dispersion, and are now returning to their original homeland in a frantic search for safe haven.

Now the world is seeking to ghettoize the Jews in their own land, strengthening their enemies by confining the Jews to an indefensible portion of the tiny little country that Rome originally destroyed in 70 AD. The United States, one of the most Christianized nations in the history of the world, understands these truths full well, as does the Roman Catholic Church. For either the United States, Europe or Rome to criminalize the Jews because they are returning to the land that God originally gave them in the Bible (and which remained desolate and undeveloped by the Arab people while the Jews were gone), is a crime of monstrous proportions.

It is one thing for the Muslims to call the Jews occupiers; it is another thing altogether for those who originally removed the Jews from their homeland, and who then proceeded to occupy and colonize the entire world, to call the returning Jews 'occupiers'. The God of Israel will deal with the Muslim religion in due time, but it will go much harder on those who have had a deep exposure to the Bible, have claimed to be 'the one true Christian church', and yet have opposed Christ's efforts to restore a Jewish homeland and the kingdom of David.

Are Americans so assured of themselves and their place in history that they do not think that God can wipe them off the face of the earth in one hour (Revelation 18)? As America's 'settlers' pushed their way from the East coast to the West coast and beyond, they called their progress 'Manifest Destiny'; something that was 'meant to happen'. But there is only one nation on earth whose destiny has been openly known and manifested since ancient times; that is Israel. They have suffered double for all their sins, as God said they would (Isaiah 40:2), and now their 'manifest destiny' is coming to pass, to the alarm of the whole world. How hard it will go for those who have pretended to desire peace, when they are judged for opposing the Prince of Peace.

2600 years ago the people of Israel were like America is now; they were prosperous, 'progressive', and believed that God was on their side. They had a noble heritage, a great capital city centered around the magnificent Temple of Solomon, and false prophets telling them that nothing but peace and prosperity lay ahead, just as America does today. But God sent Israel a message; 'Your sins demand judgment. A Gentile king is coming to conquer you. You must go out and surrender to him if you want to escape with your lives':

And unto this people you shall say "Thus says the Lord; 'Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. He that abides in this city (Jerusalem) shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence. But he that goes out and bows to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prize. For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good' says the Lord. 'It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire'."

Jeremiah 21:8-10

Jeremiah's message was hated, and he was viewed as an ignorant fool, a coward and a traitor to his country by many of his fellow Israelites. Today God has a similar message for America and the rest of the Gentile world:

'A Jewish King is coming!'

'You must go out and surrender to Him now, leaving your earthly treasures and loyalties behind, if you wish to escape with your eternal souls.'

U.S.A. = Unrestrained Sex and Alcohol

Today America can no longer project invincible power throughout the world, as it once did after World War 2. It is being compelled to retreat to the Western Hemisphere militarily, and to rely more upon 'soft power'. But America still has a geopolitical card to play in the Eastern Hemisphere. It can sacrifice Israel to the ravenous wolves of the Muslim world in order to placate and cement alliances with them. Such an agreement would help secure ongoing access to Middle Eastern oil and insure Western economic wealth for the foreseeable future.

One might object to this perspective, pointing out that America has newly developed oil and gas supplies at home, which leave it free of dependence upon the Middle East. But this is untrue for one simple reason; America is part of a larger 'western' economy that includes Central and South America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. As goes the rest of these countries, so goes America. When one considers America's interest in the Middle East, one must keep in mind the interests of its economic partners.

Now that America's military options in the Middle East are diminished, there is increasing interest on the part of the entire western alliance to play the diplomatic card; the sacrifice of Israel to its enemies. This explains the increased pressure for Israel's withdrawal to indefensible positions outside of the West Bank. Such a compelled withdrawal would please the Muslim world, while also soothing the internal populations of Europe and the U.S.; populations increasingly comprised of both Muslims and godless people who simply hate Israel because the western media has painted Israel in the worst colors.

Since its rebirth in 1948, the nation of Israel has been driven to protect itself by seeking shelter under the wing of the United States. Without doubt Israel has sought to cement an alliance with America, and to exert influence within American halls of power for nearly 70 years. They do not deserve to be criminalized for that. But now that relationship has become increasingly precarious, as Americans have come to question Israeli influence in America, and to consider the possibility that the Muslim world is on the right side of history.

In the light of this increasingly uncertain relationship with America, Israelis are now divided over whether or not to surrender themselves to western plans for the division of their country (with western guarantees that they will be protected), or to stand and fight against the whole world from a defensible border along the Jordan River. As a hostile world closes in more and more upon the tiny nation of Israel, some Jews are beginning to realize that only a god can save them. I expect that this conclusion will become more and more apparent to the Jewish people in the days ahead.

It is likely that when the United Nations first partitioned Palestine in 1948, some members hoped that Israel would succeed while others expected that the Arab nations would kill the infant nation of Israel 'in its cradle'. Whatever the original intentions of the United Nations may have been, the idea of restoring Israel to its pre-1967 borders today is clearly unjust and genocidal. Today such boundaries are completely illegitimate, for three reasons:

    1) Because Israel has conducted itself admirably, affording Arab citizens living within its borders more freedom, safety and a higher quality of life than can be found anywhere else in the Middle East.
    2) Palestinian, Arab and Muslim leaders throughout the world have waged war against Israel relentlessly. They have steadfastly denied Israel's right to exist in any form, while persistantly pursuing Israel's destruction.
    3) The nature of war has changed much since 1948. Today's weapons are much faster and more powerful than could be imagined in 1948. While the original boundaries imposed upon the Jews in 1948 were barely defensible, and a 'good fit' for them at the time, they represent a formula for Israel's destruction today.

Israel has demonstrated to the world that it is one of the most open, democratic and 'tolerant' nations in the world, while territories administered by Israel's enemies are dominated by hatred, terror, poverty and corruption. The best possible fate for any Palestinian west of the Jordan River would be to become a citizen of Israel, as long as they are willing to live peacably side-by-side with Jews. As it is, any Palestinian in the West Bank willing to acknowledge Israel's right to exist will not dare say so, for fear that Palestinian death squads will kill both them and their families. Today terror reigns in the Palestinian territories. Those territories should be granted to Israel, and all terrorists and enemies of Israel should be expelled. That is the only scenario in which both peace and the wellbeing of many Palestinians can be achieved.

The West is knowingly setting up a situation that threatens the complete extinction of the Jews, because any Palestinian 'state' west of the Jordan River will be dominated by the most violent and ruthless elements within Palestinian society, just as Lebanon and Gaza are today. Such is the hypocrisy of the West, talking about justice, fairness and peace, when what they really seek is to divide God's land for profit and sell Jewish boys and girls for influence in the Middle East and around the world; an influence that will enable them to continue enjoying the decadent lifestyle that they desire. As the following passage from the book of Joel indicates, as far as God is concerned, USA stands for 'Unrestrained Sex and Alcohol':

For behold, in those days and in that time when I shall reverse the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat (meaning 'the valley of judgment'). And I will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land. And they have cast lots for my people, and have given a boy for a whore, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

Joel 3:1-3

Everything from the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD to the horrors of Hitler's death camps, testifies to the modern world that God has judged Israel, and is therefore certain to judge the rest of us. Shall the world go on in willful blindness and a disregard for these judgments? Does it not already see that most of God's prophecies have already been fulfilled before its eyes? How long will the nations continue to rage against God, vainly imagining an outcome that will not happen?

Why do the nations rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Christ, saying "Let us break their bands apart, and cast away their cords from us". He that sits in the heavens shall laugh. The Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure. "Yet have I set my King upon My holy hill of Zion (Jerusalem)".

Psalm 2:1-6

Do the nations not know that the nuclear-tipped missiles are now standing ready in their planes, silos and submarines? What blindness and madness prompts world leaders to ignore these things? It is a blindness foisted upon them by a defeated archangel who is going down to destruction, and wants to take his captives with him.

How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How are you cut down to the ground, who did weaken the nations! For you have said in your heart "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High". Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see you shall narrowly look upon you, and consider you, saying "Is this the one that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms, that made the world as a wilderness and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?"

Isaiah 14:12-17

In Revelation chapter 17 the city of Rome (the Roman Catholic Church) is described as a Woman, a Whore and as 'Babylon'. And in that same chapter we are told that there will be 10 horns that will give their power to the Beast for one, final, prophetic 'hour', and will hate the Whore and burn her with fire:

And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the Beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the Beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings. And they that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And he said unto me 'The waters which you saw, where the whore sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues (languages). And the ten horns which you saw upon the Beast, these shall hate the Whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God has put in their hearts to fulfil His will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the Beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the Woman which you saw is that great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth'.

Revelation 17:12-18

Revelation chapter 18 describes the future fiery destruction of this Whore, Babylon, occurring in one day (verse 8) and in one hour (verses 10,17,19). But in that same chapter Babylon is described as being so fabulously wealthy, and its trade connections so dominant over the world's economy, that the kings and merchants of the earth will mourn over Babylon's destruction because of their loss of wealth.

Therefore shall her plagues come in one day; death and mourning and famine. And she shall be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her. And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning. Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, they will say 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour is your judgment come'. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her, for no man buys their merchandise any more.

Revelation 18:8-11

The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, and saying 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! For in one hour so great riches is come to nought'. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying 'What city is like unto this great city!' And they cast dust on their heads and cried, weeping and wailing, saying 'Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate'.

Revelation 18:15-19

Now as large and magnificent a city as Rome is, I do not believe that enough business is transacted there to prompt such worldwide mourning. Rather, I believe that the 'Babylon' of Revelation 18 is the greater Roman Catholic world, with the United States being the chief economic engine of that world. What I believe we are seeing in Revelation chapter 18 is the sudden destruction of the United States, and possibly of the entire Western Hemisphere in a surprise nuclear attack.

The Fall of Babylon (Matthew 24:29, Mark 13:25, Revelation 6:13)

Though some people may not realize it, the United States is saturated with Roman Catholicism. The United States and the RCC are joined at the hip. While the RCC is headquartered in the Vatican, Rome's primary place of operation and source of influence and financial power is in the Western Hemisphere, and particularly in the United States. Apart from the United States and the Western Hemisphere, the Roman Catholic Church would effectively cease to exist. 'Post-Christian' Europe left Rome years ago, and is rapidly becoming a part of the Islamic world.

Ever since the United States was established, Roman Catholic leaders have pursued their Church-State model here in attempts to bolster their power and influence. Through its church members at the grass roots level, and through its schools, universities and other institutions the RCC has come to exercise tremendous influence at the federal, state and local levels of America.

In the meantime, lukewarm Protestants have been 'returning' to Rome in droves, while more conservative Protestants have embraced the Roman Catholic traits of nationalism, militarism and religious superstition. Very little remains of genuine Protestantism in America today. While the RCC has claimed the moral 'high ground' through its charities, its opposition to abortion and its promotion of 'conservative family values', a Protestantism that left its 'first love' has had its lampstand greatly dimmed (Revelation 2:5).

I have always known that the United States is the most militarily and economically powerful nation in today's world. But I wondered whether or not the United States actually possessed the incredible wealth portrayed in Revelation 18, especially since the recession of 2008 and the rise of China's economy. But American businessmen have been hard at work pursuing broader international business connections while achieving tremendous efficiencies through computerized manufacturing and information technology. American business has been resilient, and this is why Revelation 18:23 describes Babylon's merchants (her bankers, lawyers, economists and businessmen) as the "great men of the earth". And now, with the new technologies being applied in oil and natural gas retrieval, America has become another 'Saudi Arabia'. Given this information, I fully expect that America will soon completely fulfill God's description of Babylonian wealth in Revelation 18.

Is America's destruction close at hand? I do not believe so. As I indicate in my web page on The Timetable for Jesus' Return, I believe that the return of Christ could happen as late as 2050. And there is one major aspect of Bible prophecy that has yet to be fulfilled before anyone can begin to anticipate Christ's second coming; the Mark of the Beast that is first described in Revelation 13:16-17, and is warned against in Revelation 14:9-12. I believe that this 'Mark' is very close at hand. Some Christians believe that they will be taken (raptured) out of this world before they will have to make a decision about that Mark, but I don't believe this is true. Their belief is based upon a mistaken understanding of the 70th Week of Daniel (see 'The Timetable for Jesus' Return'). And I don't think that anyone can begin to talk about whether or not the second coming of Christ is imminent. I have already discussed the Mark of the Beast in my page titled 'The Beast and the False Prophet'.

After World War 2, America stood alone as the most powerful nation in the world. It exercised military power and economic dominance practically anywhere it wanted to. But today the balance of world power is changing, and I believe that American leaders are now seeing things increasingly in terms of 'limited spheres of influence'. America is once again defining itself in terms of the Monroe Doctrine, and its right to dominate the Western Hemisphere. My expectation is that America will accept increasing trade-offs in the near future. For instance, a recognition by nations in the Eastern Hemisphere that Cuba and Venezuela fall within America's sphere of influence, while Taiwan, the South China Sea and Ukraine fall within Chinese and Russian spheres.

I expect that one of the most potent forces instrumental in connecting and unifying the Western Hemisphere will be the Roman Catholic Church, which has great influence in all of the nations of the hemisphere. I don't think it's a coincidence that the present Catholic pope is from Argentina. The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church have always been sensitive to the 'political winds', and to the desires of rich and powerful people. There is strong support within political and religious circles in America for the liberalization of America's borders, and the idea that the entire Western Hemisphere is 'America'. If the strengthening of America's physical and geographical borders is abandoned, then there will be only one alternative way to insure security; the Mark of the Beast.

I believe that Revelation 18 is a picture of 10 nations in the Eastern Hemisphere (possibly the 'kings of the East' mentioned in Revelation 16:12) that will destroy the Roman Catholic United States, and possibly the entire Western Hemisphere, in a sudden nuclear attack. And Revelation 17:17 tells us why they will destroy America. The ultimate reason, regardless of what the leaders of these 10 nations may be thinking at the time, will be because God Himself will have put it in their hearts to do so. He is determined to execute vengeance upon Rome; a city that has so wickedly opposed Him, has killed so many Christians and has destroyed so much of humanity since 70 AD.

These 10 nations may already be aligning with each other in such organizations as the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), recently established by China. I suspect that the Beast of Revelation is most clearly seen in our day as the United Nations. I would not be surprised to see the United States exerting less influence in the U.N., while the major nations of the Eastern Hemisphere support it more and more. The U.N. might also relocate more of its operations to the Eastern Hemisphere. There could come a point, in the final prophetic 'hour', when the United States will separate itself completely from the U.N. and identify itself exclusively with a 'Catholic block' of nations in the Western Hemisphere. If that day comes, the United States will have fully 'morphed' from the 'little horn' upon the head of Daniel's Beast, to the Woman upon the back of the Beast in Revelation 17.

It will be interesting to see just how overt the cooperation between the United States and the Roman Catholic Church becomes in the days ahead. I would encourage my reader to study the history of Rome's interactions with the nations of the world, and to pay close attention to the trends. A useful starting point for studying Rome's history would be almost anything written by Avro Manhattan; especially his book The Vatican in World Politics, available to read on the internet. In that book, Manhattan describes Rome's involvement and cooperation with Hitler and Mussolini before World War 2.

In Revelation 18 God commands His people to come out of Babylon:

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying "Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

Revelation 18:4-5

What does God mean when He tells His people to come out of Babylon? I have already said that I believe that the 'Babylon' of Revelation chapter 18 is the greater Roman Catholic world; seen primarily in the United States and the rest of the Western Hemisphere. So does God want Christians to move to the Eastern Hemisphere? No, I don't believe so.

First we must realize that Babylon is, primarily, the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) itself. Rome has ridden upon the back of the Beast since 70 AD, and God's commandment to come out of her has applied to Christians for many centuries. It is a commandment to come out of Roman Catholicism, with a warning that if we continue to attend and support the RCC, we partake of its sins by honoring it with our attendance. This is a commandment that has been instrumental in the lives of God's saints for centuries. With it God is commanding His people to recognize the very clear distinction between Rome and the true Christian church.

Secondly, I think it would be impractical for God to expect all of His people to leave the United States or the Western Hemisphere. It would not make sense for God to say that He wishes that everyone in America or the Western Hemisphere would repent and become Christians, but then to say that He wants them all to move to the Eastern Hemisphere. Such an idea is unreasonable.

Thirdly, it needs to be remembered that when Babylon is attacked, God's people will be simultaneously 'raptured' or removed from the planet. They will not experience Babylon's 'plagues', because they will have remained faithful to God. If they come out of her, they will not be punished with her.

To come out of Rome, one must have a good understanding of Rome. I have explained Rome from a theological perspective in my web page titled 'The City of Rome in Prophecy', and from a geopolitical perspective in my page titled 'The Beast and the False Prophet'. It is my opinion that the first thing a person must do, in order to 'come out' of Rome, is to stop partaking of the Roman Catholic Mass. The Mass is symbolized by the cup in the hand of the Woman in Revelation 17. Because Rome's priests claim to do (in their Mass) what Jesus alone can do, make His shed blood effective for a sinner, they compete directly with God for the souls of men. This is why Revelation 17:4 says that her cup is filled with 'abominations and the filthiness of her fornication'.

Many evangelicals will say 'Well that's easy. I have been a good Protestant all of my life'. But coming out of Rome entails more than not being a member of the RCC. It means not sharing Rome's values. It means departing from the ways of the RCC; ways that are clearly distinct from biblical Christianity.

    1) MILITANCE  If you believe that God would have Christians engage in 'just wars' under the banner of the Cross, and that He has supported America's various wars throughout its history, you are essentially Roman Catholic. It concerns me that, whenever a young soldier enters a Protestant church in uniform, he is praised and applauded and seldom challenged about whether or not he is ready to answer to God for the killing that he will do, or has done.

If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity: he that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Revelation 13:9-10

He that says he abides in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

1 John 2:6

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.

1 John 4:17
    2) NATIONALISM  If the American flag holds a prominent place on your church podium and in your life, and competes in any way with your affection for the Kingdom of God, you are Roman Catholic. Christians should always be open to the possibility that their nation stands in opposition to God. And they should be ready to choose between those two things. Rome has always thrived through a policy of connecting church and state, blurring the distinction between the two; trading the church's support of the state for the state's favorable treatment of the church.

For our community (citizenship) is in heaven, from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 3:20
    3) TRADITIONALISM  If your church uses its statement of faith to shut down free and open discussion regarding the important truths of the Bible, you are Roman Catholic. Rome places all of it emphasis upon the 'traditions of the church' as its rule of faith and practice, and is very authoritarian and 'top-down' in its interaction between the laity. Genuine Christianity, however, is fed by a regular examination (and re-examination) of the Bible itself. The only way that the living God can have a living church is if that church is nourished on a daily basis by the 'milk and meat' of His word. God's people need fresh manna every day. Stuff that has been stored on the shelf is of no use. The Bible itself is the church's 'statement of faith'.
    4) DOMINIONISM  If you believe that God wants His church to Christianize the world (rather than to suffer patiently outside of the world's gates) you are a Dominionist in your thinking, just as the Roman Catholics are:

Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him outside the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

Hebrews 13:12-14
If you believe that Israel no longer has a prominent role to play in the future of the world (as a Jewish nation and restored Kingdom of David), and that the Christian church is now the only 'Israel of God', you are Roman Catholic and have embraced the 'replacement theory' that they have held for centuries.
    5) SACRAMENTALISM  If you teach your children (and others) that they can be saved simply by walking down an aisle, saying a prayer or being baptized, rather than through repentant self-judgment and sincere faith in the risen Savior, you are a sacramentalist, just as the Roman Catholics are. To trust in empty prayers and rituals, rather than in a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ and a life-changing work of the Holy Spirit, is to depart from Biblical Christianity.
    6) EASTERN MYSTICISM  There is a genuine Christian mysticism and experience of God that is described in the Bible, and that I explain and refer to throughout this web site. But there is a movement afoot today, even within Protestant churches, to turn away from genuine Christian mysticism, and to apply 'Eastern' medication techniques in an attempt to 'connect' with the spirit world (sometimes called 'centering prayer').

Through these techniques, used routinely by Buddhists and Hindus, and that have a long-standing tradition of use within the Roman Catholic Church, people are connecting with beings that the Bible calls 'familiar spirits'. This movement is sometimes referred to as the 'Emerging Church'. If you are involved in this, dear reader, then you are very 'Roman Catholic'. It is through such connections with familiar spirits that false Catholic doctrines have arisen:

Regard not those who have familiar spirits. Neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 19:31

Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and teachings of devils. Speaking lies in hypocrisy and having their conscience seared with a hot iron. Forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from meats, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

1 Timothy 4:1-5

Evangelical Christians in the United States tend to be fairly wealthy people. This is due to their clean and simple lifestyle, and their belief in the 'work ethic'. Wealthy Christians often like to believe that their wealth is a sign of God's favor, and that it represents the normal status of all those who faithfully serve the Lord. But sometimes Christians are in debt because of misforture, because of poor decisions or simply because they have not been Christians for very long, and have not yet learned about how God wants us to handle money.

Regardless of whether a Christian is wealthy or impoverished, I believe that God calls us to realize that, just as it occurred with Job, so also in our own day our faith can be challenged by the sudden loss of our wealth or of our health. The normal trials of the Christian life will usually center around, first, the loss of our possessions, and secondly, the possible loss of our lives. In the light of this, I believe that God would have us minimize our possession of both money and property. Both of these things represent a potential snare for any Christian who would faithfully follow God at this time.

I believe that Christ is still challenging people today, as He once instructed a rich young man, that if we would enter heaven then we need to sell our goods, give the proceeds to the poor, and then come and follow Him (Matthew 19:21). If our affections are set upon things here on earth, and our treasures are here rather than in heaven, we will not be able to endure the challenges that lie ahead. We will look back with longing upon the world, as Lot's wife did, when we should be coming out of it (Genesis 19:26, Luke 17:32). Should we be responsible with money, and have some saved up for a 'rainy day'? Absolutely. But this must be done with the realization that it can all be taken away from us in a moment. Then our only true wealth will be measured in terms of where we stand in our relationship with God.

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

Matthew 13:22

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:9-10

Just as the Jews of Jeremiah's day had to leave Jerusalem behind, and go out to surrender to Nebuchadnezzar, so Christians today must go out of the world, surrendering to the Son of God. And while we do that, we must be 'Gentile Jeremiahs', telling fellow Americans and everyone else in the world that citizenship in this world will be a curse to us. This 'world citizenship' will soon be signified by the Mark of the Beast.

I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.

Philippians 3:8

And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Revelation 12:11

Many evangelical leaders claim that America is a 'Christian nation', with a Christian foundation. In fact, many of them believe that Christianity and American Democracy are one and the same thing. They point to the Christian heritage of the early colonies, and to the ministry of men such as Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield as evidence of God's hand upon American history. They would do well, however, to remember that the RCC was here first. Rome had already conquered all of Central and South America before Edwards first preached. French Catholic explorers had already visited the Great Lakes, and the Spanish had already planted mission churches in the southwest. And while Edwards and Whitefield were preaching, the RCC was busy in the colonies also.

Jesus once told a parable about the nation of Israel. He spoke of the profound cleansing impact that the ministries of John the Baptist, Himself, and finally His disciples would have upon the Jewish nation. But Jesus warned that when such blessings come, they are often followed by greater evil; an evil which, in Israel's case, led to its destruction at the hands of the Romans in 70 AD.

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says "I will return into my house from whence I came out." And when he is come, he finds it empty, swept, and garnished. Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there. And the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Matthew 12:43-45

The fact that the early American colonies were richly blessed with outpourings of God's Spirit, and that America has enjoyed a rich exposure to Biblical teaching ever since, does not make it a Christian nation; in fact the opposite is true. America is now filling its clean house with the demons of greed, heresy, abortion, drunkenness, sexual license, homosexuality, sorcery, violence, gambling, the abandonment of Israel, the criminalization of Christianity and the embracing of Islam. How can anyone doubt that God's judgment is coming upon such a nation such as this?

Any Christian who chooses to put his earthly nationality above his Savior will share in the judgment coming upon that nation. Christian shallowness and lack of discernment threatens to undo, once and for all, any credibility that the biblical gospel ever had in the United States. If evangelical Christianity dies in America now, it will be evangelical Christians who killed it.

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

1 Thessalonians 5:6-8

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies."

Revelation 18:2-3

As I have pointed out already in this web page, democracy is inherently unjust. While the common man is allowed to vote every two years in congressional elections, and every four years in presidential elections, wealthy and powerful people and corporations vote every day, and often many times a day through lobbyists that they send to Washington. Beyond that, these powerful groups have great influence in both political parties, so that frequently both candidates that appear on the ballot are beholden to the same interests.

Christians hear it said, time and again, both by politicians and by their own church leaders, that if they want to make a difference and affect the course of the country, they need to vote and engage in political activism. But what does God tell us? Does God exhort us to pursue political influence? No. He tells us to focus our attention upon Him. Christians have direct access to 'halls of power' that infinitely exceed any power here on earth, and they are encouraged to 'lobby God' regarding their concerns. It is an unspeakably great privilege to be able to do so.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:1-4

The Bible is filled with examples of men who had great impact upon the world because they looked first to God, and were aligned with His purposes. The examples of Moses before Pharaoh, Daniel before Nebuchadnezzar, Jesus before Pilate and Paul before Caesar come to mind. These men were not seeking political office, and their treasures were not to be found here on earth. Their 'struggle' was not to possess this present world, but to have a part in God's coming kingdom. They were not impressed by the power of kings and nations, because they had seen and understood the power of God.

Jesus answered "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight.

John 18:36

Two of the hallmarks of Roman Catholicism are

    1) A willingness to wage war in the name of Christ, and
    2) Dominionism: the belief that Jesus wants His people to dominate and Christianize the world before He comes, essentially achieving a perfect union of church and state.

Both of these hallmarks have one thing in common; the pursuit of wealth and power in the 'here and now'.

What concerns me is that many of today's American evangelical Christians have embraced these values. They have a 'kingdom now' worldview, and have very little appreciation for the fact that the kingdom will not begin until the 'King' has come. They reject Jesus' teaching that it is the meek who will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5), and advocate taking the world by political maneuvering, military force, or both. In this pursuit they are blatantly disobeying God, Who has told us that it is only after we have patiently and graciously endured the attacks of our enemies (foregoing health and wealth in this world, if need be) that we can hope to share in the glory of His coming kingdom.

The book of Revelation shows God the Father taking His great power and conquering the world after He has first considered the prayers of His people, offered upon the Altar of Incense before His throne.

Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand.

Revelation 8:3-4

Evangelical leaders who advocate 'supporting our troops' and achieving God's will through the ballot box, fail to understand where power truly lies. They have a form of godliness, but in reality they deny the power of God. If they truly believed in His power, both they and all who hear them would be pursuing 'influence' in the only way that it can truly be achieved; lobbying God through prayer. I fear that there will be great shame in the future for those who thought power is to be found and exercised in any other way.

1) THE BEAST (Daniel 7, Revelation 13:1-10, Revelation 16:13, Revelation 17:3-18, Revelation 19:19-20)

The Beast first appears as the fourth beast of Daniel 7, having one head and 10 horns. In the New Testament it becomes a Beast having 7 heads and 10 horns. The Beast is militant, organized, God-opposing humanity. We are told that the Beast of Revelation has been authorized by God to continue throughout the second half of the 70th Week of Daniel; in other words from 70 AD until the present. For a fuller explanation of the Beast, I refer my reader to my web page titled Understanding The Beast.

2) THE FALSE PROPHET (Revelation 13:11-18, Revelation 16:13, 19:20, 20:10)

This is the second Beast described in Revelation 13. It is described as coming up out of the earth or land. It possesses the traits of a false prophet, appearing like a lamb while speaking like a dragon (Satan). The False Prophet does not experience the long lifespan of the Beast; from 70 AD until the present. The False Prophet is a product of our modern times. It performs three miracles, corresponding to today's technology. It brings down fire from heaven through the technology of airplanes and powered flight. It causes an image to come alive and speak, through the technology of movies, television and smart phones. It will impose the 'Mark of the Beast' upon the world through Block Chain technology; a 'distributed ledger' computer system that will revolutionize the economy and the administration of the world in the immediate future.

3) THE WOMAN, HARLOT, WHORE, BABYLON (Revelation chapters 17 & 18)

This is the city of Rome, confirmed for us in Revelation 17:9,18 where she is described as being seated upon seven hills, and as 'that great city' which was ruling over the kings of the earth when John received the book of Revelation.

I have discussed the city of Rome, and its transition from being the seat of Roman power prior to 69 A.D. to being a religious center after 69 A.D., in my web page titled The Beast and the False Prophet. I explain Bible prophecy regarding the religion of Rome in my web page titled The City of Rome in Prophecy.

4) THE APOSTLE PAUL'S 'MAN OF SIN' (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12)

The apostle Paul's 'Man of Sin' is described in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2.

Let no man deceive you by any means. For that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first. And that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped. So that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

Paul was not describing a single man, but a unique class of men; the Roman Catholic priesthood. How is this true? The Roman Catholic priest claims that, in the Roman Catholic sacrament of the Mass, he is literally reconstituting the very body and blood of Jesus Christ at his altar, and is re-offering it to God on behalf of mankind as an atonement for sins. In addition, the Roman Catholic Church claims to be Christ's 'vicar' or representative upon earth, exercising His authority to interpret the Bible and add to it, and exercising His authority to authorize holy wars.

This is how Rome's priests portray themselves to the world as God, seated in the Temple of God. The only Persons who can rightfully make that claim are God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Mary is not one of these divine Persons. The Roman Catholic Church has usurped the Biblical offices of the Lord Jesus Christ; that of Prophet, Priest and King. And so while God tells people to come directly to His Son by faith, hearing Him by reading their Bibles and speaking to Him by prayer, Rome says that we must come to Rome. Rather than represent Jesus Christ before the world, Rome competes directly against Him for the souls of men. For further information about Rome, I refer my reader to my web pages titled 'The City of Rome in Prophecy', 'The Beast and the False Prophet', and 'The United States in Prophecy'.

The Antichrist is mentioned in only four verses, all written by the apostle John, and found only in his letters. The word 'antichrist' never appears anywhere else in the scriptures. It means what it appears to mean; one who is against or opposed to Christ.

Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

1 John 2:18-19

Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.

1 John 2:22

And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

1 John 4:3

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

2 John 8

As we examine John's words, the one thing that defines the antichrist is false doctrine. More specifically, John defines antichrists as

    A) Those who once professed faith in Christ, but have departed from biblical Christianity.
    B) Those who deny the Father and the Son.
    C) Those who deny that the Son of God has come into the world in human flesh.

John's description of an antichrist could apply to any one of a number of people, religions or cults that have claimed to be Christian or to respect Christ, but have departed from the true Christian faith.

It should be observed that John never says anything about the Antichrist establishing covenants, ending sacrifices, claiming to be God, having miraculous powers, cooperating with the Beast or being destroyed at the second coming of Christ. Nor does he link 'the Antichrist' with any other passage of scripture. The term 'antichrist' is not even found in that greatest of all prophetic books, Revelation, which John himself wrote.

Rather than take caution from this, Dispensationalists have taken advantage of it. Because of his sinister name, and because so little is known about him, Dispensationalists have felt free to plug the Antichrist into their end-times scenario. For them the Antichrist is 'the Prince who is to come' (of Daniel 9:26), the 'Abomination of Desolation', Paul's 'man of sin', and 'the Beast' that gets thrown into the Lake of Fire (along with the False Prophet). One cannot count all of the books, articles and movies that have flowed out of John's very limited words about 'the Antichrist'.

Although John says that there are many antichrists, in 1 John 2:18 he seems to refer to one specific person, 'the Antichrist', who surpasses all other antichrists in his opposition to God. So who is this Antichrist? I do not know. One candidate to consider would be Mohammed. Islam claims Biblical roots, but fiercely denies that God has a Son, and that Christ was 'Emmanuel'; 'God with us' in a human body. There is no other religion that more directly and forcefully denies the deity of Christ today than Islam.

Muslims have written 'God has no son' inside their mosque, the 'Dome of the Rock', sitting on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. This will ultimately prove to be a profound embarrassment to them. It was this One who declared Himself to be the Son of God, and who predicted the desolation of the Temple and its possession by the Gentiles until His second coming, whose words they now fulfill with their mosque on the Temple Mount.

6) THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION (Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15, Mark 13:14) The Roman general Titus and his army, which destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD (see The Olivet Discourse for an explanation of this fact, and see The Timetable for Jesus' Return for a discussion of Titus).

7) THE 'PRINCE WHO IS TO COME' OF DANIEL 9:26 - also the Roman general Titus.

8) THE LITTLE HORN OF DANIEL 7:8 The United States of America (see The United States in Bible Prophecy)

9) THE LITTLE HORN OF DANIEL 8:9 The City of Rome, beginning as a very small power on the edge of the Greek Empire. Rome first expelled Greece from the Italian peninsula in the Pyrrhic War, defeated its southern enemy Carthage in the Punic Wars, and then proceeded to move east, conquering Greece, Asia Minor (defeating Antiochus the Great) and eventually the rest of the Middle East (including Israel).

This Little Horn exalted itself against the Prince of God's host, the Lord Jesus Christ. It then brought an end to the daily sacrifices, destroying Jerusalem and its Temple in 70 AD. Because of Israel's transgressions the Roman Empire was allowed to continue its dominance over the Jews, and to establish a religion (Roman Catholicism) that casts truth to the ground. No better combination of brevity and accuracy regarding Rome's complete history can be found.
